London, May 23 -- : A longer workweek may help companies achieve their business goals, but did you know, working extra hours is actually impacting the environment?

In a paper titled, "The Ecological Limits of Work: on carbon emissions, carbon budgets and working time", researcher Philipp Frey, discusses the idea of having a shorter workweek which could help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and also boost employee productivity.

As companies run for longer hours, more emissions are pumped into the environment. Similarly, employees who work lesser would be able to lead a better, healthier life. A previous study found that one per cent decrease in working hours could lead to a 0.8 per cent decrease in emissions.
