Hooghly, June 2 -- Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar slammed the West Bengal government on Monday, claiming that the state is "rapidly turning into the rape capital of India." His comments came during a visit to Hooghly, where he met the family of a rape victim.

A 13-yeard-old girl, who had been missing since May 27, was allegedly raped and murdered. The Srirampur Court in Hooghly sent the accused to custody.

"The most disturbing part is that the girl, who went missing on the 27th, was later found completely naked. She was also differently-abled. Unfortunately, this is not the only incident -- West Bengal is rapidly turning into the rape capital of India," Majumdar told ANI.
