New Delhi, May 6 -- Congress leader Supriya Shrinate has credited former Prime Ministers Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi for laying the groundwork for India's close ties with Russia, following a phone call by Russian President Vladimir Putin to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking to ANI, Shrinate said, "Today Russia stands with India, and this is the result of the foreign policy that has been followed by every government and whose foundation was laid by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Today India has good relations with Russia, and this is the contribution of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi..."
