Greater Noida, Aug. 24 -- Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi on Sunday described the alleged murder of Nikki Bhati for dowry in Greater Noida as "shameful" and demanded that stricter laws should be made to punish the accused involved in such a crime.

While speaking to ANI, the JDU leader said, "Even after 75 years of independence, a dowry harassment incident happening in a country like India is a situation more shameful than anything else. Stricter laws should be made so that such people can be punished."

A woman was allegedly set on fire by her husband and mother-in-law over dowry demands, according to the police. The victim later succumbed to her injuries, sparking nationwide anger.
