New Delhi, July 23 -- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Malviya on Wednesday criticised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after the Election Commission of India (ECI) requested the state government to delink Chief Electoral Officer's (CEO) office from state departments.

He questioned the legitimacy of past elections in the state.

"This raises serious questions about the legitimacy of past elections, the credibility of the voter roll, and the mandates Mamata Banerjee has claimed over the years. Ironically, it is the same Mamata Banerjee who, while in the opposition, had demanded a clean-up of the voter list, even claiming she had a list of Bangladeshi infiltrators," Malviya posted on X.
