New Delhi, Aug. 20 -- As several Opposition MPs opposed the Constitution Amendment bill seeking to amend the procedure of removing Chief Ministers, and ministers, Bharatiya Janata Party MP Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday defended the government's move to bring the amendments, asserting that it is sad for Indian governance that leaders who go to jail for a longer duration continue to remain in power.

The remarks of the BJP came as the Lok Sabha witnessed a ruckus during its proceedings as opposition members tore copies of the bill and threw them towards Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
