Bengaluru, Dec. 22 -- Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday strongly criticised the Centre's VB-G RAM-G law, alleging that it was introduced to weaken and eventually dismantle the MGNREGA scheme.

He asserted that the employment guarantee programme is a constitutional right linked to Article 21 of the Constitution.

He noted that under the earlier framework, the Centre covered 90% of the cost of infrastructure projects, while the state contributed only 10%. According to him, the new Bill alters the funding structure and threatens the scheme's survival.
