Kannur, May 5 -- Kannur City Police Commissioner, P Nidhin Raj, said an investigation is currently underway following the seizure of mobile phones from Kannur Central Jail. He confirmed that some information about the smuggling of phones into the prison has been received.

As per the officials, jail staff discovered the phones during an inspection. Two smartphones were hidden behind the first cell in the tenth block. Five phones have been seized from the prison in the past week.

The commissioner stated that phones have been thrown into the prison from outside in some cases. He also said that thorough checks are conducted on inmates when they go to or return from court.
