Agartala, June 26 -- Tripura BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee has slammed the Congress over the 50th anniversary of the imposition of Emergency and said that the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi implemented the Emergency to save her seat.

"We are celebrating a black day. We know the then-PM, Indira Gandhi, implemented the Emergency to save her seat as PM. All the people, including leaders, media persons and even common people, were jailed and tortured...We are presenting what Indira Gandhi did against the Constitution of India," Bhattacharjee told ANI.

On Wednesday, Rajib Bhattacharjee participated in a public meeting at the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan, marking 50 years of the Emergency as 'Samvidhan Hatya Divas'.
