New Delhi, Dec. 14 -- Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Bangar emphasised Shubman Gill's role as a platform-builder, advising him to focus on playing proper cricketing strokes rather than attempting big shots.

Bangar also felt that with big hitters like Hardik Pandya, Jitesh Sharma and Shivam Dube behind him, Gill should prioritise tackling tough overs, handling the new ball, and surviving early breakthroughs, especially in crunch situations or low-scoring games.

This comes after Gill failed to score in the first two fixtures of the ongoing five-match T20 series against South Africa. Gill scored only four runs in the first T20I and was dismissed for a golden duck in the second match against South Africa.
