New Delhi, July 30 -- BJP MP and Chairperson of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on 'One Nation, One Election', PP Chaudhary, on Wednesday, said that if elections across the country are held together, it will boost the economy by Rs 4.5 lakh crores.

Chaudhary made the statement after the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) meeting on 'One Nation One Election' was convened today at the Parliament House.

"We held discussions on the effects of simultaneous and non-simultaneous elections on the economy of the country... It affects as much as 1.6% of the GDP," Chaudhary said.

He added that the proposed policy could result in significant financial gains at both the national and state levels.
