Mumbai, July 1 -- Newly elected Maharashtra BJP president Ravindra Chavan asserted that the party's double-engine government is committed to making decisions in the best interests of the people.

Ravindra Chavan formally assumed charge as the new state president on Tuesday.

"The double-engine government of the BJP is taking decisions in the best interests of the people," he told media persons on Tuesday after being elected as the party president.

Reflecting on his journey in the party, he added, "BJP is the party of the workers... Today, a normal worker of the party has been elected the Maharashtra president of the Bharatiya Janata Party."
