New Delhi, Aug. 1 -- The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday strongly rejected Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's repeated claims of vote theft, and called his statements 'deplorable' and 'irresponsible.'

In a statement, the ECI stated that Rahul Gandhi neither responded to their official communication nor appeared when called.

The Commission also accused him of making wild allegations and threatening its staff, but added that it will continue to work fairly and transparently.
