New Delhi, Jan. 5 -- Delhi Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit termed the brutal assault of a father and son in the Laxmi Nagar area as "deeply disturbing," blaming it on what he called the systematic weakening of the Delhi Police and neglect of its core responsibility of maintaining law and order.

"This is very disturbing. But this is a consequence of how they have gradually weakened the Delhi Police. The Delhi Police is busy serving VIPs, and its primary duty of maintaining law and order is being completely neglected," Dikshit said. He alleged that the Home Minister has "transformed the Delhi Police into his personal or VIP force," weakening an institution that was once considered a model for the country.
