Malda, April 11 -- Bharatiya Janata Party MP Khagen Murmu accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of "inciting violence" against two communities and trying to turn the state "into Bangladesh."
The BJP MP's comments come as West Bengal's Leader of Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, claimed that some people tore a saffron flag during a protest against the implementation of the Waqf Act.
Khagen Murmu, while speaking to ANI during a public rally in Malda, said, "Mamata Banerjee is trying to turn West Bengal into Bangladesh by inciting Muslims against Hindus and bringing them on the streets... The grand Ram Navami processions were absolutely apolitical, indicating that the Hindus are awakening."
