New Delhi, Aug. 18 -- Janata Dal (United) leader K C Tyagi came out in defence of the Election Commission (EC), calling allegations by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi an "insult" to the constitutional institution.

His reaction comes after EC, in a press conference on Sunday, refuted allegations of "vote theft" by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and asked him to either furnish a signed affidavit or apologise to the nation for his remarks.

Speaking to ANI on Sunday, Tyagi said, "The Election Commission is a constitutional institution; you may disagree with some of its decisions, but calling the entire Election Commission a den of thieves is an insult to it."
