Jakarta, Sept. 8 -- The Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI) voiced its opposition to the government's program to certify Islamic preachers in the country, MUI Deputy Chairman KH Muhyiddin Junaidi stated.

"The MUI rejects the program," he affirmed here on Tuesday.

Consequently, an uproar has arisen in the community amid concerns over the government's intervention in implementing the program.

The community is apprehensive of governmental intervention in religious aspects through the Islamic preacher certification program, he pointed out.

"Implementation of the program can create difficulties for Muslims and will potentially offer an opportunity to certain circles to misuse it to control religious life," Junaidi stated.
