India, July 3 -- The Kedarnath Yatra was temporarily suspended on Thursday after a massive landslide triggered by heavy rains struck Munkatiya near Sonprayag, blocking the road to the Himalayan shrine, police said. Debris and large stones completely obstructed the route at the Munkatiya sliding zone, forcing officials to halt the pilgrimage as a precaution.

Several pilgrims returning from Gaurikund were trapped in the affected area but were quickly rescued by State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams and brought safely to Sonprayag, authorities confirmed. The administration has temporarily suspended the yatra while the situation is being assessed and efforts to clear the debris are underway.
