India, March 11 -- Gangster Aman Sao, a notorious criminal accused in over 150 cases, was shot dead in an encounter with the police in Jharkhand's Palamu district on Tuesday. The shootout erupted when members of his gang launched a daring attack to free him while he was being transported from Raipur jail in Chhattisgarh to Ranchi, officials said.
The gunfight took place near Andheritola in the Ramgarh police station area when Sao's gang ambushed the police vehicle, leading to a fierce exchange of fire. Sao was killed on the spot, while a police personnel sustained injuries, confirmed Medininagar Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Manibhushan Prasad.
