Sri Lanka, April 4 -- The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has issued a statement that preventing Muslim teachers from wearing the Abaya while teaching is a violation of the Constitution under Articles 10, 12 (1), 12 (2) and 14 (e).

This was with regard to a complaint lodged by four female Muslim teachers that they were not allowed to wear the Abaya at the school they taught at.

In March 2018, four Assistant teachers of Sri Shanmuga Hindu Ladies College, Trincomalee lodged a complaint with the HRCSL that the Principal and the School Board of Management prohibited them from wearing the Abaya at school.
