Sri Lanka, April 12 -- The World Health Organization (WHO) highlights that Sri Lanka has made remarkable progress by reducing maternal mortality to 25 per 100,000 live births in 2023 due to the country's free and equitable maternal health services and commitment to continuous quality improvement.

However, the global health organization also noted a rise in low birth weight babies, as shown in recent studies, highlighting the urgent need to examine the underlying causes and the role of maternal nutrition.
