Sri Lanka, March 5 -- S.C. Muthukumarana of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) was sworn in as a Member of Parliament on Tuesday (March 05).

The new MP took oaths before Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena shortly after the parliamentary session kicked off this morning.

Muthukumarana was appointed to fill the MP seat which was left vacant after the resignation of SLPP MP of Anuradhapura Constituency, Uddika Premarathne.

He was next in line on the SLPP list for the Anuradhapura District.

Premarathne had tendered his resignation to the Deputy General Secretary of Parliament on February 27 for reasons yet to be made public.
