Sri Lanka, April 26 -- Maldivian, the national carrier of the Maldives, launched direct flights between Colombo and Male as the inaugural flight touched down at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake on Thursday (25).

Accordingly, Maldivian will now operate two weekly flights departing every Thursday and Saturday, providing flexible options for both leisure and business travellers.

Launching its operations, the first flight reached the BIA with 138 passengers. Upon arrival, the flight was welcomed by a celebratory water cannon salute while the passengers were accorded a warm welcome with Ceylon tea gift packs and a traditional Kandyan dance performance.
