ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 13 -- United States Patent no. 12,522,566, issued on Jan. 13, was assigned to YEDITEPE UNIVERSITESI (Istanbul).

"2-(3-(2-methyl-6-(p-tolyl) pyridine-3-yl) ureido) benzenesulfonamide and derivatives as inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase IX for the treatment of cancer" was invented by Fikrettin Sahin (Istanbul), Eslam Mohammed (Istanbul) and Meltem Celik (Istanbul).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "2-(3-(2-Methyl-6-(p-tolyl) pyridine-3-yl) ureido) benzenesulfonamide (formula I) compound and related pyridine based sulfonamide derivatives are disclosed. The compound of the invention is a carbonic anhydrase targeted small molecule and also an inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase activity...
