ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 4 -- United States Patent no. 12,321,380, issued on June 3, was assigned to XEROX Corp. (Norwalk, Conn.).

"Automatic extraction of regions of interest from annotated images with occluding labels" was invented by Robert R. Price (Palo Alto, Calif.) and Raja Bala (Pittsford, N.Y.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A system and method provide extractions of regions of interest from images hand annotated by reviewers by lifting annotations from images, filtering out text labels, reconstructing continuous closed boundaries, and marking the contained region."

The patent was filed on July 8, 2022, under Application No. 17/860,935.
