ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,329,732, issued on June 17, was assigned to Vanderbilt University (Nashville, Tenn.) and The University of Mississippi Medical Center (Jackson, Miss.).

"Citrulline for treatment of sickle cell crisis" was invented by Marshall L. Summar (Washington), Frederick E. Barr (Little Rock, Ark.) and Suvankar Majumdar (Rockville, Md.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method for administration of citrulline for the treatment of sickle cell disease and other complications of sickle cell disease thereof."
