ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,227,627, issued on Feb. 18, was assigned to UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA (Columbia, S.C.).

"Polybenzimidazole films" was invented by Laura A. Murdock (Columbia, S.C.), Lihui Wang (West Columbia, S.C.), Fei Huang (Columbia, S.C.) and Brian C. Benicewicz (Columbia, S.C.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Novel PBI films which may be used in electrochemical cells, such as redox flow batteries, are disclosed. Additionally, disclosed herein are membranes which comprise the novel PBI films which may be free from an organic solvent, and have a tensile strength at break of at least 25 MPa after drying."
