ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,228,770, issued on Feb. 18, was assigned to University of Rochester (Rochester, N.Y.).
"Lithography-free integrated photonic FPGA" was invented by Jaime Cardenas Gonzalez (Rochester, N.Y.), Yi Zhang (Rochester, N.Y.) and Marissa Granados-Baez (Rochester, N.Y.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A tunable waveguide element includes a waveguide core and a waveguide cladding. A high k dielectric layer is between the waveguide core and the waveguide cladding. An electrode is disposed between the high k dielectric layer and the waveguide core. The electrode can be made of a two-dimensional material and/or monolayer."
