ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 28 -- United States Patent no. 12,533,444, issued on Jan. 27, was assigned to University of Kansas (Lawrence, Kan.) and University of Southern California (Los Angeles).

"Mitigation of peri-implantitis by design and stability of bifunctional peptides with antimicrobial properties" was invented by Candan Tamerler-Behar (Lawrence, Kan.), Emily Wisdom (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Malcolm Snead (Los Angeles).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Described herein is a bifunctional peptide, compositions comprising the same, and methods useful for treatment of peri-implant disease."

The patent was filed on Sept. 7, 2020, under Application No. 17/641,058.
