ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 23 -- United States Patent no. 12,365,880, issued on July 22, was assigned to The University of Tokyo (Tokyo) and Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) (Madison, Wis.).

"Recombinant influenza viruses with stabilized NA" was invented by Yoshihiro Kawaoka (Middleton, Wis.), Yuri Furusawa (Tokyo) and Seiya Yamayoshi (Kanagawa, Japan).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Modified influenza virus neuraminidases are described herein that have stabilized NA tetramers which may improve vaccine production efficiency, thus improving the yield of vaccine viruses."

The patent was filed on Aug. 3, 2023, under Application No. 18/365,082.
