ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 23 -- United States Patent no. 12,364,609, issued on July 22, was assigned to The Regents of the University of California (Oakland, Calif.).

"Biomimetic implants" was invented by Yacov Koffler (La Jolla, Calif.), Shaochen Chen (La Jolla, Calif.), Mark Tuszynski (La Jolla, Calif.) and Wei Zhu (La Jolla, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Implantable devices for spinal cord and peripheral nerve injury are described. The implants include a three-dimensional printed structure having stem cells disposed therein. Also disclosed are methods of treating neuronal injuries with the disclosed implants."

The patent was filed on Dec. 12, 2017, under Application No. 16/468,586.
