ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,270,127, issued on April 8, was assigned to The Regents of the University of California (Oakland, Calif.).
"Antibacterial and antiviral fabrics" was invented by Gang Sun (Davis, Calif.) and Peixin Tang (Davis, Calif.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Disclosure provides antimicrobial fiber, comprising: a cationic or polycationic moiety grafted onto a cellulosic fiber and an anionic photosensitizer. Exposing the antimicrobial cotton fiber to light generates reactive oxygen species (ROS) and induces a biocidal function."
The patent was filed on Oct. 12, 2021, under Application No. 17/498,975.
