ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,305,023, issued on May 20, was assigned to The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel Ltd. (Hong Kong).

"Cellulosic superabsorbent polymer from post-consumer textile waste" was invented by Edwin Yee Man Keh (Hong Kong), Lei Yao (Hong Kong), Alex Chan (Hong Kong), Mimi Hetti (Hong Kong), Yang Liu (Hong Kong), Hung Chan (Hong Kong), Xin Chen (Hong Kong), Wendy Yu (Hong Kong) and Hosanna Poon (Hong Kong).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present disclosure provides methods of preparing cellulosic superabsorbent polymer (SAP) using cellulose powder."

The patent was filed on Sept. 24, 2019, under Application No. 17/310,861.
