ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,492,242, issued on Dec. 9, was assigned to The Government of the United States of America, as represented by the Secretary of the Navy (Arlington, Va.).

"Single domain antibodies that bind and neutralize Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus" was invented by Jinny Lin Liu (Ellicott City, Md.), Dan Zabetakis (Brandywine, Md.), Ellen R. Goldman (Germantown, Md.) and George P. Anderson (Bowie, Md.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Described herein are single-domain antibodies that might serve as alternatives to conventional monoclonal antibodies for either the detection or treatment of Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEEV)."
