ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 3 -- United States Patent no. PP36,781, issued on July 1, was assigned to THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS (Little Rock, Ark.).

"Blackberry plant named 'A-2718T'" was invented by John R. Clark (Fayetteville, Ark.), Margaret L. Worthington (Fayetteville, Ark.) and Carmen A. Johns (Fayetteville, Ark.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Description and specifications of a new and distinct blackberry cultivar named 'A-2718T' which originated from seed produced by a hand-pollinated cross 'A-2487T' (a non-patented, unreleased genotype) x 'A-2418T' (a non-patented, unreleased genotype). This new blackberry cultivar can be distinguished by its medium to large fruit...
