ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 20 -- United States Patent no. 12,390,557, issued on Aug. 19, was assigned to THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE LELAND STANFORD JUNIOR UNIVERSITY (Stanford, Calif.).

"Cryogel bioscaffold" was invented by Avnesh S. Thakor (Redwood City, Calif.) and Mehdi Razavi (Redwood City, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A three-dimensional oxygen-generating bioscaffold capable of supplying cells with a continuous, controlled, and steady source of oxygen and methods of using such an oxygengenerating bioscaffold to prevent hypoxia-induced damage to cells following transplantation are disclosed.
