ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,331,021, issued on June 17, was assigned to SUZHOU FUDE ZHAOFENG BIOCHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY Co. LTD (Suzhou, China).
"Total synthesis of pirfenidone" was invented by Lihua Zhou (Suzhou, China).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present invention relates to a process for the synthesis of Pirfenidone (1) from 5-Methyl-3,4-dihydro-2-pyridone and halobenzene (chlorobenzene, bromobenzene, or iodobenzene) in the presence of a catalytic system consisting of a copper salt and an organic ligand, in the presence of a base."
The patent was filed on Sept. 10, 2020, under Application No. 17/434,820.
