ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 2 -- United States Patent no. PP36,577, issued on April 1, was assigned to Sierra Gold Nurseries Inc. (Yuba City, Calif.).

"Prunus hybrid rootstock named 'PIHy17EYNem'" was invented by Charles Edward Fleck (Yuba City, Calif.) and Reid Robinson (Yuba City, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A new and distinct Prunus hybrid tree named 'PIHy17EYNem' useful as a rootstock and notable for increased vigor imparted to scions, excellent root strength, tolerance of wet soils and reduced susceptibility to root-and crown-rots caused by Phytophthora species."

The patent was filed on Aug. 6, 2024, under Application No. 18/796,216.
