ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 6 -- United States Patent no. 12,283,061, issued on April 22, was assigned to Siemens Medical Solutions USA Inc. (Malvern, Pa.).

"Gantry alignment of a medical scanner" was invented by Paul Schleyer (Knoxville, Tenn.), Deepak Bharkhada (Knoxville, Tenn.), Harold E. Rothfuss (Knoxville, Tenn.), Mohammadreza Teimoorisichani (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Dieter Ritter (Furth, Germany).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A framework for gantry alignment of a multimodality medical scanner. First image data of a non-radioactive structure is acquired by using intrinsic radiation emitted by scintillator crystals of detectors in a first gantry of the multimodality medical scanner.
