US Patent Issued to Saudi Arabian Oil on Sept. 16 for "Hydrogen production from gasification of sour gas" (Saudi Arabia Inventors)

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,415,723, issued on Sept. 16, was assigned to Saudi Arabian Oil Co. (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia).

"Hydrogen production from gasification of sour gas" was invented by John O'Connell (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia), Megat A. Rithauddeen (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia) and Jacobus Scholtz Kotze (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A sour gas stream is sub-stoichiometrically combusted to produce soot and a sour syngas stream. At least 10% of the carbon in the sour gas stream is converted into the soot. At least a portion of the hydrogen sulfide of the sour syngas stream is reacted with sulfur dioxide to produce a syngas stream comprising the car...
