ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,351,522, issued on July 8, was assigned to Rolls-Royce Corp. (Indianapolis) and University of Virginia Patent Foundation (Charlottesville, Va.).
"Thermal and/or environmental barrier coating system" was invented by Adam Lee Chamberlain (Mooresville, Ind.), Elizabeth J. Opila (Charlottesville, Va.) and Mackenzie J. Ridley (Knoxville, Tenn.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An article may include a substrate and a coating system on the substrate. The coating system may include a thermal and/or environmental barrier coating (T/EBC) layer, wherein the T/EBC layer includes a silicate phase including more than one metal cation."
