US Patent Issued to Rio Vista Farms, University of Georgia Research Foundation on Oct. 7 for "Blueberry plant named 'CBG-23-05'" (Georgia, California Inventors)

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 8 -- United States Patent no. PP36,997, issued on Oct. 7, was assigned to Rio Vista Farms Inc. (Selma, Calif.) and University of Georgia Research Foundation Inc. (Athens, Ga.).

"Blueberry plant named 'CBG-23-05'" was invented by D. Scott NeSmith (Griffin, Ga.) and Gregory Willems (Kingsbury, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The new variety of blueberry 'CBG-23-05' is characterized by having large, firm, berries with excellent color. The berries ripen early in the season and have a long shelf life. Further, the berries of the new variety 'CBG-23-05' are crunchy, with moderate sweetness and mild acidity."
