ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 29 -- United States Patent no. 12,208,139, issued on Jan. 28, was assigned to RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE (Troy, N.Y.).

"Controlled drug release from electrospun fibers" was invented by Anthony R. D'Amato (Ithaca, N.Y.), Nicholas Schaub (Germantown, Md.), Andrew Sante Fiumara (Fayetteville, N.Y.), Paul Michael Troiano (Housatonic, Mass.), Jesus Cardenas (Lake Forest, Calif.) and Ryan J. Gilbert (Wynantskill, N.Y.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Embodiments of the invention relate generally to electrospun fibers and, more particularly, to the controlled release of an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) from electrospun fiber scaffolds (EFSs)."
