ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 23 -- United States Patent no. 12,366,708, issued on July 22, was assigned to Psiquantum Corp. (Palo Alto, Calif.).
"Photonic integrated circuit" was invented by Vimal Kumar Kamineni (Fremont, Calif.), Matteo Staffaroni (San Ramon, Calif.), Faraz Najafi (Palo Alto, Calif.), Ann Melnichuk (Rio Rancho, N.M.), George Kovall (Palo Alto, Calif.) and Yong Liang (Niskayuna, N.Y.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A device includes a substrate, a dielectric layer on the substrate, a waveguide within the dielectric layer, and a photodetector optically coupled to the waveguide. The photodetector is disposed above the waveguide layer and is monolithically integrated with the substrate....
