ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 3 -- United States Patent no. 12,403,412, issued on Sept. 2, was assigned to Northwestern University (Evanston, Ill.).

"Metal-organic frameworks for the removal of uremic toxins" was invented by Omar K. Farha (Glenview, Ill.) and Satoshi Kato (Fuji Shizuoka, Japan).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Metal-organic framework molecules with pyrene group-containing or biphenyl group-containing linkers for use in the removal of uremic toxins from biological samples that contain such toxins are provided.
