ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 3 -- United States Patent no. 12,404,312, issued on Sept. 2, was assigned to Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (Boston).

"Engineered VEGF variants for retinal neuroprotection, promotion of axon growth and axon regeneration" was invented by Yin Shan Eric Ng (North Billerica, Mass.) and Junhui Shen (Hangzhou, China).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The invention provides methods of promoting retinal ganglion axon formation, survival, and synapse formation."

The patent was filed on March 5, 2019, under Application No. 16/978,177.
