ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,415,889, issued on Sept. 16, was assigned to International Business Machines Corp. (Armonk, N.Y.).

"Cyclopropenimines for activation of carbon dioxide" was invented by Dino Wu (New York), Luis M. Campos (New York), Nathaniel H. Park (San Jose, Calif.), James L. Hedrick (Pleasanton, Calif.) and Junho Kwon (Bronx, N.Y.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A process, apparatus, and material for generating polymers are disclosed. Generating the polymers comprises reacting carbon dioxide (CO2) with a cyclopropenimine (CPI). Generating the polymers further comprises reacting monomers with a product of the reaction between the CPI and the CO2."
