ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 6 -- United States Patent no. 12,458,617, issued on Nov. 4, was assigned to Hill's Pet Nutrition Inc. (Overland Park, Kan.).

"Pet food compositions comprising caprylic acid and docosahexaenoic acid and/or eicosapetaenoic acid for use in treating struvite urolithiasis" was invented by Matthew Jackson (Topeka, Kan.) and Dennis Jewell (Lawrence, Kan.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Disclosed herein are pet food compositions for treating or preventing-inter alia-struvite urolithiasis comprising at N least one of caprylic acid and capric acid; and at least one of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)."
