ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 21 -- United States Patent no. 12,441,296, issued on Oct. 14, was assigned to EATON INTELLIGENT POWER Ltd. (Dublin).

"Aftertreatment heat up strategies in vehicles with hybrid powertrains" was invented by James E. McCarthy Jr. (Kalamazoo, Mich.) and Mihai Dorobantu (Mission Viejo, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A vehicle hybrid powertrain includes an internal combustion engine; an electrical drivetrain; a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) device coupled to receive exhaust from the internal combustion engine; a fuel burner; and a control system that controls heat applied to the SCR device including by controlling the fuel burner and the internal combustion engine...
