US Patent Issued to Cummins on March 18 for "Thermal management of exhaust gas with HCCI event" (Indiana, Washington Inventors)

ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,253,043, issued on March 18, was assigned to Cummins Inc. (Columbus, Ind.).

"Thermal management of exhaust gas with HCCI event" was invented by Todd A. Sheridan (Fortville, Ind.), Steve D. Hart (Columbus, Ind.) and Ryan Todd Pettyjohn (Seattle).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A system, apparatus and method for exhaust gas thermal management can employ a homogenous charge compression event in one or more cylinders to increase the output temperature from the cylinder to heat the exhaust gas in response to a thermal management condition associated with operation of the internal combustion engine."
